@f00@t4Issue reviewed - #08

@t6PRESENTATION AND DESIGN@t5
This is Grapevine number eight, and
code version number three. You guessed
it, recode fever strikes another
magazine. This is Grapevines third
and best inncarnation so far. In the
begining Grapevive was a simple news
magazine for the UK scene only, it
boasted almost no design whatsoever, a
thirty two pixel font and a lurid

colour cycling background. LSD
decided it was time to turn Grapevine
into a full diskmagazine last October.
Well, the magazine opens with PD
warning followed by a title picture by
Watchman who shows you once again how
me make a picture from six thousand
half-bright circles. The design of
the magazine itself is well thought
out, but graphics do let it down
somewhat. The colour sceme is a
little bizarre and 'Bizzare Shading
a-la' Watchman is once again in
evidence. All important features are
however included, such as functions to
go to the first and last page of the
article currently being read. Numeric
keypad entry is available, as well as
the ability to control a selector bar
with mouse on the contents page.
Icons are a little drab, being just
@#@^@t5
boxes with squashed text to inform the
user of their function. The
userfriendy nature of the design saves
the magazine from any misgivings in
the polish department. @t7 70/100
@t6CONTENT@t5
The contents of a magazine can often
be the key factor of its success in
the scene. I'm happy to say that
Grapevine has no problems in this
department. The articles are
plentyful on genaraly interesting and
relevant to the scene, the computer
world in general or just plain wacky.
There are some thought provoking
discussive articles such as Justin
Scharvona's "Amiga music review",Your
procrastination serves only to
undermine your opinion Mr Scharvona.

@t6OVERALL@t5
Grapevine eight is the best issue yet,
while I may have afew misgivings about
the look of the magazine, the thought
put into the genaral design takes away
any ill feelings. I found some fonts
used in articles didn't really mix too
well, a blocky double height font with
a 'handwriting" style font combined
with a contrasting colour sceme didn't
do a lot for me. Overall the best
issue yet, good articles, though
sometimes orientated around the U.K
scene culture which may prove
offputting to some. @t7 81/100
